ROCHESTER, N.Y. (August 20, 2016) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds (4-15-4) were unable to overcome two first half goals by the Rochester Rhinos (10-5-9), eventually falling 3-0 at Rhinos Stadium.
Rochester midfielder Sofiane Tergou opened scoring with tallies in the eighth minute and 40th minute, respectively, and Sean Reilly added a third in the 57th minute.
The Hounds opened the match nearly taking the lead in the first minute, as Kevin Kerr floated a beautiful ball into the box for Alejandro Aguilar. Aguilar flicked a chip shot on net, but goalkeeper Tomas Gomez caught just enough of the take to force a Hounds corner. Danny Earls took the ensuing corner from the right, curling a useful ball to find the head of Willie Hunt, but the latter’s shot was directly at the Rhinos keeper for another quick save.
From there the Rhinos continued to attack the Hounds from the right side of the pitch, eventually cashing in on a dangerous cross into the box far post in the eighth minute off a Tergou header past goalkeeper Zack Steffen. Tergou’s tally in the 40th minute was similar, as a ball from the right found the midfielder for a shot in the upper-right corner of the net for the brace.
Pittsburgh will now look to get back on track at home against Wilmington Hammerheads FC (6-10-6) on Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
