PITTSBURGH (August 25, 2020) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello has been named to USL Championship Team of the Week, presented by Cleer Audio, after recording his first career clean sheet in the club’s 2-0 win against Loudoun United FC on Aug. 19 at Segra Field.
In this road victory, the Massapequa, New York native recorded three saves. His first stop came in the 5th minute, as he dove to his right to collect a shot headed toward the bottom corner. He followed up this tremendous effort with a save off a Loudoun corner kick in the 22nd minute before making an exceptional reactionary save during a Loudoun breakaway opportunity in the 27th minute.
He also registered two claims and two punches against Loudoun this past week.
Vitiello, in his first season with the Hounds, has posted a 1.00 goals-against average and .714 save percentage in two games played. Before starting against Loudoun on Aug. 19, the goalkeeper made his professional debut on the road against New York Red Bulls II on July 26.
Riverhounds SC is back in action with a match against Hartford Athletic at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 at Dillon Stadium. Both teams sit atop Group F with 16 points apiece with the Hounds ahead via goal differential tiebreaker. This match can be steamed live on ESPN+.
