PITTSBURGH (Feb. 27, 2024) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will have four of their USL Championship matches shown on national television in 2024, showcasing some of the club’s biggest matchups and putting the team’s Highmark Stadium home on display for the team’s 25th anniversary season.
The Hounds are scheduled to appear twice on ESPN2 — July 20 when they host Hartford Athletic and Aug. 3 on the road at Sacramento Republic FC — and twice on CBS Sports Network as part of the USL’s new four-year deal with CBS — June 19 hosting Louisville City FC and Aug. 7 at Detroit City FC. The four matches are the most the Hounds have had picked up for national broadcasts in a single season, as the team comes off its 2023 Players’ Shield-winning campaign.
The first of those matches — the Wednesday, June 19 contest against Louisville— will be the first national TV home match for the Hounds since 2020, when they hosted Indy Eleven at Highmark Stadium in a match on ESPN2. Since then, the Hounds have been on the road when shown on national TV each of the past three seasons.
This will be the ninth season USL matches are carried on the ESPN family of networks, a deal that includes streaming on ESPN+ that was renewed this season and announced earlier today by the USL. This is in addition to the league’s previously announced deal with CBS to air matches nationally on CBS and CBS Sports Network and stream via CBS Sports Golazo and Paramount+ through 2027.
The move to national TV does come with slight changes to the start times for three of the matches. The Hounds’ home match June 19 against Louisville will now be at 7:30 p.m.; the home match July 20 against Hartford will now kick off at 8 p.m.; and the road match Aug. 3 at Sacramento is moved up to a 10 p.m. start. The Aug. 7 game at Detroit maintains its 7 p.m. kickoff time.
Details about the Hounds’ local broadcast schedule for 2024 will be announced in the coming days.
