PITTSBURGH (May 10, 2024) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and the Riverhounds Development Academy are putting together teams for the 2024 USL Academy League season with updates to the program designed to further bridge the gap from the academy to senior levels.
This summer, the club is introducing the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2, a newly restructured Second Team that will sit atop the boys academy setup and underneath the professional First Team. The team will be coached by former First Team player and head coach Justin Evans, and playing this year in the USL Academy League, the team will feature a mostly Under-20 roster with allowances for a limited number of overage players.
The team will host an Invitational Combine on May 29 that is open to all players — previous playing experience in the Hounds Academy is not required. Players who wish to apply for the combine must complete the application found HERE, and accepted players will be notified by email. Questions should be directed to Academy Scout, Josh Kremers, at jkremers@riverhounds.com.
The Hounds will also field a girls team for the second year of USL Academy League offering girls divisions, which will serve as a stepping stone toward the addition of Pittsburgh’s W League team, which begins play in 2025. As with the boys’ competition, the roster will be composed primarily of Under-20 players but includes opportunities to include a limited number of overage players.
Academy Director Scott Gibson will coach the girls team, and players interested in joining for the upcoming season should email him at sgibson@riverhounds.com.
Teams will begin play in June, and more information about the schedule and opponents for this summer will be announced later this month.
